Heavy Rains Cause Flash Flooding and Mudslide in Poudre Canyon, Highway 14 Closed at Ted’s Place

Heavy rain has fallen in the High Park Fire area this afternoon and the Larimer County Sheriff's Office says Highway 14 is closed at Ted's Place on the east and Poudre Park on the west due to mudslides.

The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Central Larimer County including the High Park Fire burn area and Buckhorn Mountain until 8:30 p.m. Friday night.

The predicted weather pattern in Larimer County for the weekend will remain the same as Friday.  Flash flood warnings may continue until Monday.  Highway 14 may experience more mudslides and falling rocks which may impact residents and impede travel along Highway 14.

Highway 14 residents from Mishawaka on the west to Gateway Park on the east are now under a pre-evacuation alert.  Residents should be ready to leave at a moment's notice if conditions worsen.  There is no evacuation site open at this time but will be opened if an evacuation is necessary.  Again this is a pre-evacuation notice only.  227 emergency notifications were sent.

Highway 14 is expected to reopen soon after being closed due to mudslides and flash flooding.   CDOT and the Colorado State Patrol are working in the area.

Residents are advised to be aware of changing conditions.

Update at 4:04 p.m. (7/6/2012)

CDOT is on scene working to clearing the road and rain is subsiding in the area at the present time.

Flash flooding in the Monument Gulch area flowing into Fish Creek in the Pingree Park area. No evacuations have been ordered at this time.
