Halloween season is upon us, and I had the chance to visit a haunted house that has been ranked one of the best in America. But does it live up to the title?

Let me introduce you to the 13th Floor Haunted House and the Asylum, two of the premiere destinations in the state of Colorado to get your "scare on".

Our first stop was to the 13th Floor, which is located near the Denver Coliseum on Brighton Boulevard. First off, it probably is one of the best locations you can think of when it comes to a haunted house. Surrounded by different industrial buildings, driving up you get the sense that Freddy Kruger or Michael Myers is going to walk up to your car.

As you are waiting in line for the doors to first open up a few of the characters from the 13th Floor visit with the different victims, I mean patrons, of the location. As you can see from the picture above, one of the visitors is a voodoo man who plays the role perfectly. Just by seeing him, and the other characters, you get the sense that your walk through the 13th Floor is going to be memorable.

The 13th Floor Haunted House is broken into three sections:

Slasher Remix - This is where you will encounter some of your favorite masked horror superstars from the movies you grew up with. The actors behind the characters play them perfectly, and I truly felt like I was being chased by Jason at one point in time. And when Michael Myers jumps in front of you behind a window? WOW. Very realistic.

Undead Abominations - Think you have what it takes to make it through a town run over by zombies and the undead? They give you the chance to prove your worth in this part of the 13th Floor.

Cursed the Ritual - While I may rank this section as my least favorite, it was still scary enough especially when one character gave you the sense that she was going to jump on top of you but ends up flying over your head! Yes. I may have needed to change my jeans after this encounter.

If you like to be scared, you definitely need to check out the 13th Floor Haunted House. I don't get scared very easily, but this haunted house definitely pushes you to the brink of nightmares at the end of the night.

I give the 13th Floor five ghosts out of a possible five. It was THAT good!

The next location that we visited Friday night was the Asylum, which is about 3 miles down the road from the 13th Floor Haunted House.

The Asylum is located on East 39th Avenue in Denver, and just like the 13th Floor is situated in the middle of a bunch of industrial buildings. So you still get that sense that you are walking into something very spooky! The Asylum doesn't disappoint either, with three different attractions that you walk through.

Post Mortem: The Escape - So when you first walk into "Post Mortem", they lock you in a room and you need to find the combination to get yourselves out of it. After about five minutes of us scrambling, we ended up getting through the room to push us into the attraction and we were greeted by one of the spooky characters. This lead to...

Primitive Fear: Anarchy - In this section you need to deal with deranged residents who have taken over the town, and want to make you one of their victims.

Ridgegate: The Deranged - Can you deal with patients who are lunatics and have escaped from the loony bin? In this attraction, that is the main objective...and some of them are simply CRAZY!

With the Asylum, I would give it four ghosts out of five. But I was also comparing it to the 13th Floor just before it...and I don't think anywhere can come close to that!

Have children? Keep them at home! These attractions can definitely push you to your scare limits, and I'm not sure children under the age of 12 can handle it.

But if you want to get your scare on in the next month, check out these haunted houses in Denver to get you ready for the Halloween action!
