Colorado Is Not the Best Place to Celebrate Halloween in 2026
Halloween is still weeks away, and many are amping up for the festivities. Homes are decorating their yards, some are building haunted houses, and many Colorado residents are going to haunted attractions. Kids are picking out their costumes, some parents are making their children's costumes, and others are trying to figure out what they want to be this year. When it comes to celebrating Halloween, there are many different ways to do so, but where you live may dictate what kind of experience you have. Is Colorado a good place to celebrate Halloween, or are there other places that know how to honor the holiday better than the Centennial State?
The Best and Worst States For Halloween

When you think of Halloween in America, which state comes to mind first? Perhaps it is Colorado with the Stanley Hotel, perhaps it is Louisiana with the haunted swamp, or maybe it is Massachusetts with the infamous Salem witch trials. According to a recent study by consumeraffairs.com, the best state in the country for Halloween is New Hampshire, with Maine being second, and Kentucky rounding out the top three. The worst state for Halloween is Hawaii, with Mississippi being the second worst, and Vermont rounding out the bottom three. Where does Colorado fall on this list, and how does it compare to other states?
Is Colorado a Good State For Halloween?

Colorado is not in the top 5 or 10 of best states for Halloween, but does come in at number 13 according to the study. Colorado averages 5.4 haunted attractions per one million people, 6.2 pumpkin patches per one million people, and 6 Spirit Halloween stores per one million people. The good news is that Colorado is improving, though. The Centennial State previously ranked 19th in 2023 and continues to rise. While Colorado may not rank among the best states, it still offers plenty to do for residents and still honors the holiday better than most states.
