CO is Home to a Great Foster System
Being a child is one of the best times in many people's lives. You get to go to school and play with your friends, you get to play with toys, watch cartoons, play video games, play outside, take naps, and eat snacks. Most people would say their childhood was good, and they wish they could go back to being a child. While many miss those days, not everyone does. Some kids have a rough childhood for one reason or another. Perhaps they grew up in a broken home, an abusive home, or were in the foster system, hoping for a family to adopt them. When it comes to foster care, some states do it better than others, but how does Colorado rank when it comes to foster care?
The Best and Worst States For Foster Care
There are over 330,000 children in the foster care system in the United States for one reason or another. These children sadly can't live with their families in the way that many do growing up. SmileHub recently released a study ranking the states from best to worst foster care systems. They used some main categories to help them rank the states, such as community environment and support system, foster youth baseline, and legal support. Using these criteria, it was determined that New Jersey has the best foster system, Virginia has the second best, and Connecticut has the third best. The worst foster care system in the country is in Alaska, with New Mexico being the second worst, and Florida rounding out the bottom three. Where does Colorado fall on the list?
How is Colorado's Foster Care System?
When it comes to foster care in Colorado, the Centennial State ranks fifth according to the study. Colorado ranks 12th in community environment and support, 29th in foster youth baseline, and 1st in legal support. Colorado is also tied for the highest maximum foster care monthly stipend. Colorado is making sure that, despite many of these children drawing a tough card in life, the state is doing the best it can to help them out and make sure they find a good home. Life is already tough on them, and it's nice to know that the state is doing what it can to help. If you have thought about doing foster care or adopting, perhaps this is your sign that you should.
