After some idle time, the Fort Collins trolleys are back and ready to roll this summer. The city has two iconic trolleys: the Birney Car 21 and the newly-restored Birney Car 25 are ready to hit Mountain Avenue later this month.

According to the Fort Collins Municipal Railway Society, the cars will be operating on their normal summer schedule with rides available from noon to 5 p.m. on weekends and holidays starting on May 29 and going through September.

In order to cut down on its volunteers and passengers handling cash and giving out change, fares will not be collected for streetcar rides through June. Because of this loss in funding, the railway society will be relying on donations during that time.

Another fun way to support the trolley's volunteer-run program is to become a member of the railway society.

The streetcars will be run with windows open to promote airflow this season. and boarding locations will be at the trolley depot near City Park's tennis courts and the intersections of Shields Street and Mountain Avenue, Loomis Street and Mountain Avenue, and Howes Street and Mountain Avenue.

This is a fun way to see Fort Collins and its surroundings without having to deal with driving in traffic and just simply relaxing. This is also something fun to do with visitors as it's a pretty unique thing for us, seeing that there aren't many trolleys running in the U.S these days.
