A former Rocky Mountain High School pitcher inked a new $30 million deal with the Seattle Mariners.

The club announced it extended Marco Gonzales on Monday with a new four-year agreement. He can also earn an additional $15 million if Seattle picks up his 2025 option — there's no buyout.

Gonzales will earn $1 million this year as part of his previous two-year, $1.9 million deal.

The Denver Post breaks down how he'll be paid out in the extension, listed in bold below:

  • 2020: $1 million as part of previous deal
  • 2021: $5 million
  • 2022: $5.5 million
  • 2023: $6.5 million
  • 2024: $12 million
  • 2025: $15 million if team option is picked up

Gonzales would also get an $250,000 assignment bonus if he's traded.

The 27-year-old lefthander has emerged as Seattle's ace and was the Mariners starter on Major League Baseball’s opening day last season.

Gonzales went 16-13 with a career-low 3.99 ERA last season — tied for the AL lead with 34 starts while ranking fifth in most wins.

While Gonzales used to play in the ballparks of Fort Collins and the front range, he know has 30 million plus reasons to call Seattle home.

"“This is truly an exciting day for me and my family,” Gonzales said in the team press release. “We consider the city of Seattle our home, and to be welcomed by the Mariner organization and the fans with such open arms, and now this contract, is a dream come true...

"I will always represent this team and this city with honor and pride.”
