The Beaver Creek Fire has burned more than 36,000 acres since it started nearly two months ago near the Colorado/Wyoming border.

A very unique photo was taken by a firefighter battling the blaze. The photo shows a “fire whirl”  or "firenado". It was taken on Sunday by Charles Bolt, with engine 1419. It has been shared to the Beaver Creek Fire Facebook page, it has been shared more than 14,000 times!

A fire whirl – also colloquially known as a fire devil, fire tornado, firenado, or fire twister, or in Japan dragon twist – is a whirlwind induced by a fire and often made up of flame or ash. Fire whirls may occur when intense rising heat and turbulent wind conditions combine to form whirling eddies of air.

Check out this YouTube video of the Firenado:

Crews have the Beaver Creek Fire more than 40 percent contained, but say it won’t be fully contained until October. It has destroyed a cabin and several outbuildings.

What started the fire in June has still not been determined.
