Ptarmigan Fire Evacuation Orders To Be Lifted This Morning
Those who were issued a mandatory evacuation order due to the Ptarmigan Fire near Silverthorne will be allowed to return to their homes this morning (Thursday, Sept. 30) at 10 a.m., as per an update via the Summit County Sheriff's Office.
According to an update posted to the Summit County Sheriff's Office official Twitter page on Wednesday night (Sept. 29), the evacuation order that was issued for Hamilton Creek and Angler Mountain will be downgraded to pre-evacuation status effective at 10 a.m. this morning; all other areas currently in pre-evacuation status will remain in pre-evacuation status.
Only credentialed residents will be allowed back in the previously evacuated neighborhoods, as per the post from the Summit County Sheriff's Office.
The fire started Monday afternoon (Sept. 27) in the Ptarmigan Wilderness above Silverthorne. As a result, the Summit County Sheriff's Office ordered mandatory evacuations for the Hamilton Creek subdivision and upper Angler Mountain.
As of 10 a.m. Thursday morning, pre-evacuation notices will remain in place for lower Angler Mountain Ranch, South 40, County Road 2020, east and uphill of County Road 2020, and north of County Road 2021 - including Daley Ranch - according to 9News.
Anyone living in a neighborhood under a pre-evacuation order should begin packing their belongings and should have an evacuation plan in place, should conditions change.
Fire officials said about 536 homes were included in the evacuation and pre-evacuation notices. Fortunately, there weren't any homes that were immediately threatened by the fire.
The Ptarmigan Fire has burned about 85 to 100 acres, with no containment. Fire officials say the fire did not grow overnight.
Investigators are currently working to determine the cause of the fire.
