Major E. Coli Outbreak in Colorado Due to One Product
Another recall is here in Colorado. Food recalls can be extremely frustrating. We expect our food to be safe and ready for us to consume. We should have ease of mind when we are picking out our favorite food and snacks from the grocery store aisle.
Another food product has been recalled in Colorado and there are multiple reports of consumers getting sick and even hospitalized.
Product Recall in Colorado: What to Know
CBS reports that Organic Light Halves and Pieces shelled walnuts were contaminated with E. Coli. The product is made, packaged, and distributed by Gibson Farms.
E. Coli can cause food poisoning which comes with a laundry list of health concerns.
Organic Light Halves and Pieces shelled walnuts are most commonly sold at Whole Foods, but they can also be found at other grocery stores in Colorado.
The FDA says that Colorado, and 18 other states, are vulnerable to the outbreak. Thankfully there are no reported cases in Colorado, but 12 Americans have reported illness due to the recalled product, and there have been seven hospitalizations.
Have the Product? What to Do
If you have walnuts at your home, check the packaging immediately. If you happen to have the recalled product, throw it in the trash immediately.
Of course, many of us have walnuts in our homes. If you are unsure about whether your walnuts are affected by the recall, we recommend throwing them out to be safe.
When it comes to food my philosophy is when in doubt throw it out.
E. Coli can lead to major health problems. You do not want to take the risk.
