7 Things You See and Experience When Driving in Colorado

Colorado is a beautiful state to drive through. If you want to get out of the house for the day, you can take a beautiful drive and see a lot. You'll see different landscapes, beautiful lakes, mountains, and plenty of wildlife. You never know what you will see when you get in the car, even if you are driving your daily route to work, running errands, or going somewhere for the weekend. When it comes to driving in Colorado, there are some things you will see that you don't expect and only see in a place like Colorado.

Seeing turkeys in the wild isn't common, unless you live in Loveland, Colorado. There are wild turkeys often traveling through town, and if you live in the area, odds are high that you have had to stop once or twice to wait for them to cross the road. Sometimes they will stand in the road and block traffic, and other times they may be a distraction on the side of the road.

In Colorado, elk are common to see when driving through the state. They are often spotted in towns, in fields, and in mountainous areas. The good news is these animals are typically calm, but they can hold traffic up or cause damage if you don't see them crossing in front of you.

Seeing a bear in the wild can be a scary situation, but when you are safe in your car, it can be a fun experience. While you might see one near a stream or in a meadow sometimes, you are more likely to see one in a tree, and you don't even have to be in the mountains to spot one. You could see one in town, and it could be hidden in front of you without you knowing it is there.

There are things other than animals to see when driving. When driving through the state, the mountains can be their own distraction, but their beauty is worth looking at. It doesn't matter if you are driving down I-25 and looking from a distance, or going west and making your way through the Rockies. The mountains are worth taking in when you drive, but don't let them take your eyes off the road.

With all the wildlife mentioned above, it isn't surprising that you will also see some carcasses on the side of the road as well. While most of the bodies you see will be on the side of the road, there are also other types of dead animals you will see as well. Sometimes you may see a body in the back of a truck, such as an elk, a deer, or even maybe a truckload of cows when driving near farmland.

There are some angry drivers in Colorado, and while some will only yell or huff and puff in their vehicle, others will make sure to let other drivers know they are upset. It isn't uncommon to see middle fingers in the air when driving through the state. The best thing you can do is smile and wave and let them go on their way.

Bears, elk, and turkeys are one thing, but nothing beats seeing a majestic moose when driving down the road. These massive animals are a sight to see. They aren't commonly seen, and they are unlike any other creature due to their sheer size. They don't often come into town, but it will happen occasionally. Your best bet to see one is in Rocky Mountain National Park.
