Company Tries Out a Four Day Work Week with Surprising Results
A company in New Zealand did an experiment where they allowed employees to work a four day work week, but be paid for five days. During the time of the study employees reported a 24 percent improvement in work-life balance. After the employees day off they returned to work energized.
From the New York Times:
“Supervisors said staff were more creative, their attendance was better, they were on time, and they didn’t leave early or take long breaks,” Mr. Haar said. “Their actual job performance didn’t change when doing it over four days instead of five.”
The workers also reported feeling motivated and found ways to be more productive while at work. Andrew Barnes founded the firm and says he came up with the idea after reading THIS article in Business Insider.
