Colorado Target, Walmart and Costco Stores to Enforce New Cash Policy in 2025
Are you the type of person who uses cash religiously? A lot of us in Colorado are that type of person, but throughout the years, cash has been used less regularly. Is cash really king anymore?
I do not use cash very often. I do not use my debit or credit cards that often either when I purchase in person. If the option is available I always use Apple Pay either on my phone or my smartwatch. I use it primarily for convenience. I also use it quite a bit because I am cautious of card skimming.
Some Coloradans will argue that cash is still king. However, many companies will make it harder to use cash in 2025.
Cash Policies For Many Colorado Stores in 2025
The Federal Reserve is beginning a new initiative in 2025 that will try to eliminate damaged bills. A new policy will be put in place at major retailers like Target, Walmart, Dollar Tree, Costco, and others.

This policy would mean that these major retailers would reject cash that would technically be referred to as mutilated.
The retailers would not accept cash or any form of currency that is taped, deteriorated, worn, or burned.
Concerns for Coloradans With New Policy
There will more likely than not be some awkward situations. I imagine a lot of us in Colorado are going to be frustrated when our cash is denied because it is not great quality.
I understand what the Federal Reserve is trying to do, but at the end of the day, this is going to create a lot of tension.
