Can we try to get along this year?

Dear summer,

I know the world is gasping right now as they read that you are not my favorite season. After all, we craved summer all throughout the school year when we were kids. Summer meant freedom. It mean sunshine. It meant countless hours outside and mom having to coax us into the house just to feed us dinner. It's popsicles, pool days, evening patio sessions, campfires... and more. I get it and I respect what you bring to the table.

I just prefer the other seasons.

Fall is my favorite and you're just a speedbump to get there. Sorry, but it's the truth. Spring is lovely as well, but I dread it ending because always come around. And winter brings holidays and family gatherings and cozy nights by the fire. It's also the complete opposite from you.

Sorry, that was hard.

See, I don't want to fight with you this year. Truth be told, I'm looking forward to spending time in your presence. I want to be outside, I want to enjoy a drink by the pool, and I want to feel your sun on my skin. These are all wonderful things and they're some of your best qualities.

I seem to end up getting the bad qualities more often. The bug bites, the sunburns, the heat exhaustion. Oh, and there's the lovely feeling of getting into a hot car with a full face of makeup that just really puts the cherry on top of this summer ice cream sundae.

Perhaps this year you can just go easy on us. I know so many people are looking forward to you. They want enjoy festivals, travel and spend long days out enjoying you. Especially since last year lacked a lot of these luxuries.

I guess what I'm trying to say, is that we need you this year. We need the best of you this year. And that includes myself. I'm excited for you to arrive and my intention is to embrace you fully since life is short.

After last year, I bet you're looking to show off your best qualities... and I'm looking forward to it.

LOOK: Here are the 50 best beach towns in America

Every beach town has its share of pluses and minuses, which got us thinking about what makes a beach town the best one to live in. To find out, Stacker consulted data from WalletHub, released June 17, 2020, that compares U.S. beach towns. Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.

Keep reading to see if your favorite beach town made the cut.
