3 Reasons to Break Your Diet on Thanksgiving Day
Go ahead and go all in.
Thanksgiving is just about here. I don't know about you, but I'm ready to eat. This is a day when I know that I have the perfect excuse to just go for it. Like Nike says, "Just do it."
And I'm a firm believer that it's perfectly fine to indulge practice self care, and here's why...
3. The 80/20 rule is a thing
The idea behind the 80/20 rule is that you eat healthy 80 percent of the time, but it's O.K. to eat something "unhealthy" 20 percent of the time. This to me is the rule of grace. I know that if I am eating healthy on a daily basis at home, then I am clear to indulge in a cheeseburger and fries on date night. I consider Thanksgiving a special occasion and believe it falls into the 20 percent.
2. You're less likely to fall off the wagon completely
For me, giving myself a day or just one meal to enjoy something traditional, like a Thanksgiving dinner, helps me stay on track. I think if we deprive ourselves of too much then at some point we just snap and eat everything in sight. At least, that's how it works for me. Telling myself "It's Thanksgiving, so I can have this" helps me get back on track on the days after Thanksgiving.
1. It's sacred.
You guys, it's Thanksgiving. It's one day out of the year. Like my husband and I always say "vacation is not the time to start eating healthy." I like to apply that to Thanksgiving. It's a day of gratitude, abundance, love and food. Now, you can practice moderation if you'd like, but don't cut out entire dishes if you don't have to.
