Demolition Begins Today at Cloverleaf Kennel Club

The old Cloverleaf Kennel Club has been a fixture in northern Colorado since 1955. It was one of the most prominent buildings visible from I-25 just north of highway 34. Racing there stopped in 2007 and today crews finally started demolition of the grandstands. The good news is that 90 percent or more of the material from Cloverleaf will be recycled, according to the Denver Post. They said the demolition process took so long due to asbestos, among other things.

There aren’t any immediate plans for the land there, but Poudre Valley Health System owns the 13-acre property.

I am fairly certain just about everyone who has lived, worked, or played in Northern Colorado in the last 50 years at least knew of Cloverleaf Kennel Club. Heck, I’m not even a gambler but I went there  every now and again.

It’s kind of sad to see the building go, but exciting to see what the future holds for the area.

Did you ever go to the dog track? Do you miss it?

You can see some pictures from the defunct dog track here. And you can view some video of the demolition below from the Loveland Reporter-Herald.

Final demolition of the Cloverleaf Kennel Club began early Monday morning. Crews started on the northeast portion and are awaiting one more permit to  complete the job. It should take three to four days for the building to be  completely removed.
