Some people are excited about the costumes, some are excited about trick-or-treating, but most Americans are excited about eating candy.
Americans purchase nearly 600 million pounds of candy every Halloween and spend $3.1 billion on sugar rushes.
Halloween is a ton of fun, however, the spooky holiday is going to be more expensive than ever this year.
WHY HALLOWEEN WILL BE MORE EXPENSIVE IN 2023
Axios has reported that a sugar shortage will be responsible for candy prices to spike in 2023.
Companies like the Hershey Company, Mars Incorporated, and Nestle might struggle to meet demand. When companies can't meet demand, they raise their prices to ensure they will have a demand.

THIS IS NOT NEW FOR COLORADO
Last year, candy prices soared 13% ahead of Halloween. This will unfortunately be a continuing trend for years to come.
INFLATION IS ALSO TO BLAME
Candy in the Centennial State could also be more expensive compared to the rest of the nation. Earlier this year, Denver was ranked the seventh major city that was hit the hardest with inflation.

So, if you're planning on stocking up on candy for Halloween this year, be prepared to pay a little bit more. The sugar shortage and inflation are both contributing to higher candy prices, so it's not just a Colorado problem. But even if you have to spend a little bit more, it's still worth it to enjoy the spooky season.
