Colorado Water Park Says Goodbye to Beloved Attraction
The water park that brought the first-ever water slides to the state of Colorado will be going through some changes soon. Opening in 1979, Water World brings water park guests from far and wide to have a day in the sun, filled with adventure.
Iconic Rides Facing Retirement
Some of those rides my wife rode as a kid, and she still talks about them to this day. Sadly for her, one of these rides that she spoke of so fondly will cease operations in the coming weeks. According to 9 News, an entire section of Water World will be closing to make way for newer rides.

Water World's Calypso Cove will be retiring after more than 40 years of entertaining water park enthusiasts and will be rebuilt with new water attractions. This means the last time you will ever be able to ride Screamin' Mimi, Tortuga Run, Pirate's Plunge, and Wally World will be this month.
Farewell Celebration Planned for August 24
Water World will be hosting a farewell celebration for Calypso Cove that will feature free popsicles, mascots, swag, and prize giveaways will happen on Sunday, August 24.

We are not sure what Water World has in store for where Calypso Cove currently stands. However, we do know that whatever new attraction will be built in its place will be open for the 2026 water park season, which starts on Memorial Day.
9 News says that Water World will be releasing more information on what the plans are for the new attractions later this fall.
