The City of Fort Collins will be offering residents a chance to learn more about Xeriscape at their annual Garden Party on July 10 in La Porte, Colorado.

Join the City of Fort Collins Utilities department for their 13th annual Xeriscape Garden Party at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 10 at the Xeriscape Design Garden (300 Laporte Ave) in Laporte. Master gardeners and Xeriscape experts will be there to answers questions, lead tours of the garden and discuss landscape techniques that are appropriate for Northern Colorado.

So what is Xeriscape? By definition, it's a style of landscape design requiring little or no irrigation or other maintenance most commonly used in arid regions. Keep in mind that Xeriscape is not one particular style or look but rather a creation of of a healthy, attractive landscape that conserves water. The book is wide open...

The garden in Laporte features around 160 xeric plant species that have been grouped into three distinct zones that are based on water requirements, including trees, shrubs, perennials, ground-covers and turf. Speaking of turf, experts will also be on hand to discuss new sprinkler systems that will also help you conserve water.
