Tend to Your Own ‘Yard’ and You Won’t Check Out How Green Your Neighbors Is
I have written before about things we say that just don't make any sense. I have written about my confusion over the phrase "you can't have you cake and eat it too" along with the "the squeaky wheel gets the grease" "cute as a button" and many other old timey sayings that just make me shake my head. Many of these sayings are just plain goofy and some of them are just not true in the least bit. Here is one that is the biggest lie of them all.
We have all heard people say that the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. I cry bull crap. The only reason the grass looks greener is because you have let your yard go. The neighbors yard looks good because you haven’t gotten your hands on it to ruin it. If you spent as much time tending to your yard as you do dreaming about some other pasture, your yard could be the envy of the neighborhood.
If you spent a few hours a week tending to your own yard by watering it with love, affection and attention it will grow and prosper. You will walk in beautiful grass. If you fertilize with an occasional flower, unasked for accomplished chore or just words of love you will have a lush foundation. If you haven’t caught on, I am comparing your yard to your relationship with your loved ones. Quit looking over the fence and take care of what you have. It doesn’t water itself, you need to be the family gardener. If you don’t take care of your lawn someone else might get the job and leave you in a dirty vacant lot. Go spread some love today.
