This past weekend was a very surreal experience for me. I attended the Colorado Broadcasters Association Awards of Excellence in Denver and was shocked and surprised to receive the coveted Rex Howell Award for Colorado Broadcaster of the Year. I was stunned. The whole staff here and my whole family have known I was receiving this for some time and they never let me know They all kept the secret and I sure was shocked as you can see here. It was like being at your own funeral and getting to hear all the wonderful things people had to say about you. I am so glad I got to enjoy this while still alive.

The award itself is beautiful but the most special part of the evening were the emotions I got to feel. I got to see my wife be proud of me and share in my joy and I got see my son suddenly enter the room as they announced my name and I fell into his arms. I will cherish that forever. My daughter Vanessa was going to walk in and surprise me as well but was stuck at home with two very sick little boys. Even though Vanessa and the boys couldn't be there, they still stole my heart that night with the best award of all. While we were at the show, they made a congratulatory banner for me. I walked in the door to see their homemade artwork on my wall. They had colored and drew pictures on it. Zander drew pictures of all of us and even added a "wo ho papa". He always hears me say "woo hoo" when something cool happens and he tried to spell the best he could. If you look in the left corner of the bottom page you will see he drew me a waffle because he thought I had earned one. I was brought to tears. It's amazing what a few pieces of paper and some markers can do to someone. Thank you CBA and my family for the wonderful awards. I will never forget Saturday night.
