Is it just me or do foxes remind anyone of an oversized Pomeranian dog? Both are fluffy, cute and can have some pretty adorable facial expressions. Of course, one is a lap dog while the other is a wild animal, but you get what I am saying.

Colorado is home to three different types of foxes. The red fox, the swift fox, and the kit fox. The most common of these types of foxes in the state is the red fox. However, not all red foxes are red.

Red foxes found in Colorado have a few different color phases, Red, Cross, black, and the elusive silver. All of the colors for this breed of fox, other than red are a rarity to see in person. The only exception to these colors is that the red fox, no matter what color, has a white-tipped tail.

Larimer County Natural Resources posted two photos on Facebook this week showing a rare sight: a silver fox located near Horsetooth Reservoir in Fort Collins.

The silver fox stands out like a sore thumb in its surroundings covered in snow. The images were captured by Senior Ranger, Lane Fahrenbruch and posted to Facebook. See the photos below:

The red fox is one of the most common species of fox found in the wild across the world. The silver fox is special because it has a black coat with silver specks of hair. This is due to higher levels of melanin in its genetic makeup according to WebMD.com.
