Coloradans Fear This ‘Silent Killer’ More Than Any Other State
We all want to ensure that we live happy and healthy lives here in Colorado. As we learn more about what is good and bad for us we become more aware of our surroundings.
A chemical that was first publicly announced as dangerous in the 1950s is still on the minds of many Colorado residents.
Asbestos Concerns in Colorado
Asbestos, which was a common building material from the 1940s to 1978 is still a major concern for Colorado residents.
When you buy or rent a home you should always test for asbestos or check your agreements if you are concerned. At one time in my life, I rented an apartment that had plenty of asbestos in the ceiling. I did not realize it until I was checking over my paperwork a few months after signing the lease. The asbestos was in the popcorn ceiling.

I proceeded to be incredibly careful until I moved out after my first year. This was after I bought an at-home asbestos testing kit and realized how harmful the space I was living in was. Colorado has asbestos laws and many homes still have traces of the 'silent killer'.
How Concerned Coloradans Are Actually
Asbestos has been linked to cancer and other health issues for quite some time. Colorado has the 26th-highest rate of asbestos-related deaths in the nation, but we are far more cautious of the fibers than other states.
The Williams Law Firm, P.C. compiled data from Google Keyword Planner that identified which states are the most concerned about asbestos and Colorado had the highest volume of searches.
Coloradans searched about risks 327.68 per 100,000 searches. That is quite a high volume.
If you are concerned, we recommend purchasing an at-home testing kit, and if you are still concerned, we recommend paying a professional to test your home for it.
