More than 260,000 cases of shredded cheese that were sold at many major grocery stores and retailers nationwide under various brands have been recalled due to potential metal contamination.

Some of the many brands that the cheese is sold under include Walmart's Great Value, Target's Good & Gather, and more. The recall has been issued due to contamination from the supplier's raw material, which could cause temporary or medically reversible health consequences. While the potential of serious harm is overall low, the threat of choking hazards or injury to the throat, mouth, or digestive system could be possible.
Types of Shredded Cheeses Affected
Cheeses that were affected by this recall include low-moisture part-skim mozzarella, Italian-style cheese, finely shredded pizza-style cheese, pizza-style blend, and mozzarella and provolone blend.

It appears that the main issue with all of these shredded cheeses seems to stem from the mozzarella cheese, which is all part of these shredded cheese blends. According to 9 News, the original recall from the Food and Drug Administration was issued in October, but was upgraded to a Class II recall on December 1, 2025.
