Northern Colorado Whiskey Gets Worldwide Recognition
There is nothing quite like a good sip of whiskey while spending the evening with friends. As a whiskey lover, I have accumulated numerous bottles from all over the place.
A Colorado Whiskey Worth Talking About
However, there is nothing quite like a Colorado whiskey. There is a whiskey that is right in our backyard that grows and malts the grain that goes into a bottled-in-bond whiskey made less than 10 minutes from my home in Johnstown.

Root Shoot Whiskey is one of my favorite Colorado whiskeys, and now, the entire world knows about it. Every year, a prestigious awards ceremony takes place in London, England. The awards go to distilleries all across the globe, and getting one of those awards from the London Spirits Competition is a big deal.
Root Shoot Scores Major Wins at the London Spirits Competition
In 2026, Root Shoot Whiskey racked up numerous awards at the London Spirits Competition. Any of these awards is special, but as a self-proclaimed whiskey lover, there are two that are the most coveted. Those two awards from the London Spirits Competition are the American Single Malt Whiskey of the Year and Whisky of the Year.

You know what? Root Shoot's American Single Malt Whiskey took home both of those awards this year at the London Spirits Competition. Additionally, Root Shoot also took top honors with the Spirit of the Year and a 97-point double gold rating from the London Spirits Competition.
What Makes Root Shoot American Single Malt Whiskey Special
First and foremost, Root Shoot's Whiskey is special to me because it's locally made right here in Northern Colorado. From growing the grain to malting, every aspect is locally sourced from the fifth-generation family farm. Plus, the supply-chain journey is only about 30 miles from the field to the bottle. It's a truly local, Northern Colorado whiskey.
Tasting Notes and Aging Process
Root Shoot's American Single Malt Whiskey is aged for four years in first-use medium-char American White Oak barrels, and bottled at 100 proof. When it comes to the aroma of this bottled-in-bond American single malt, you will experience cobbler and honey granola. The tasting notes include rich pastry, a hint of cocoa, and a bright, yet spicy flavor on the palate. All of these notes and tastes make this bottled-in-bond whiskey worthy of the international accolades it received at this year's London Spirits Competition.
