Discovery of Rhonda Marie Fisher’s Body

On April 1st, 1987 the body of a 30-year-old woman named Rhonda Marie Fisher was discovered on the side of the road 35 miles from Denver.

Reports confirm that she was sexually assaulted and strangled.

Initial Investigation and Challenges in the 1980s

Fisher was last seen the night before in Denver. When law enforcement initially looked into the case decades ago, an early person of interest in the case was cleared.

However, officials confirmed that these investigations were not looking at any serial offenders in the area.

Breakthrough: DNA from Paper Bags Leads to Colorado Serial Killer

There was a recent breakthrough in the case that pointed investigations into this direction.

According to officials, DNA from paper bags placed on Fisher’s hands connected the case to Vincent Darrell Groves.

Who Was Vincent Darrell Groves?

He is often described as "one of Colorado's most prolific serial killers" and is responsible for a slew of murders targeting young women between 1977 and 1988.

The evidence from those bags matched DNA from three of Groves' homicide victims from 1979, according to Denver 7.

Groves’ Criminal History and Death

In 1996, Groves died in prison at the age of 42. He had already been convicted of murder on multiple counts prior to his death, but investigations over recent years have connected him to even more cases, like Fisher's, according to CBS News.
