Renting has many benefits. You don't have to repair things when they break, you don't have to pay taxes on your home, and you are free to leave and move much more easily than when you own a home. Most have a goal of one day owning a home, but times are changing, and owning is becoming more expensive, and it can also be a headache at times, too. When it comes to owning a home in Colorado, do renters really want to buy, or do they prefer to rent their entire lives?

Many people in Colorado rent. They rent homes, they rent apartments, or perhaps you only rent a room. Most would assume that renters are aiming to buy and to have something to call their own, but that isn't the case for everyone. 2-10.com recently released a study of renters wanting to own, and the numbers are a tad surprising. According to the study, 34% of renters would like to own a home one day, but finances are the biggest hurdle to clear. Shockingly, 44% of renters say that renting is a part of their long-term plan. For those looking to own, 32% are currently working towards buying a home, with 38% working towards buying one in the next one to three years. For those who prefer to continue living the renters' life, what reasons do they prefer renting over owning a home?

For those who don't want to own, the number one reason is no financial responsibility for repairs, which is what 33% said. 16% said they like predictable monthly costs, and 13% said they prefer it because of the flexibility to move easily. 78% of renters say they wish they could build equity while renting. How long do most people rent before buying a home? 59% of Americans rent for five years or more before they own a home, and once they buy one, 86% say they were not prepared for maintenance responsibilities. The number one thing home owners say they miss is being able to call a landlord for repairs, with 57% saying this.

Most people want to own a home one day, but there are benefits to renting as well. As the economy changes and home costs continue to go up, perhaps being a renter is the way to go.
