In a series of cool studies some scientists with strategic optimists and defensive pessimists. The one envisions good things happening and then works towards that positive outcome. The other, even if things have gone well in the past envision the things that could go wrong. It is reasonable to believe that the positive thinker will achieve his/her goals, but the critical thinkers scored the same or better in real life situations, even though they set the bar low.

As it turns out the negative thinker is so determined to change the horrible outcome that they actually become more prepared and ready for whatever the task is at hand, such as a job interview.
