Polis: 6 Goals to Colorado’s ‘Safer At Home’ Order
Colorado Governor Jared Polis spoke on Monday, April 27, 2020, about the new 'Safer-at-Home' order and the six goals the order has in mind.
On April 27, 2020, Colorado officially moved out the 'Stay-at-Home' order in stopping the spread of COVID-19 in the state, to 'Safer-at-Home.' Governor Polis talked about the six goals that it hopes to achieve.
The six goals:
- Manage the spread. The 'Stay-at-Home' order helped tremendously, but 'Safer-at-Home' will continue to 'flatten the curve' and reduce cases of COVID-19 in Colorado.
- Access to world-class health care for every Coloradan that becomes sick. With the onset of the pandemic, access to hospital beds, ventilators, etc..was a concern. The 'Stay-at-Home' order helped to buy time, 'Safer-at-Home' will buy Colorado even more time to be sure everyone can get the health care they might need.
- Find a more sustainable way to live with social distancing. Humans are sociable; it's unrealistic to think that Coloradans should stay-at-home indefinitely.
- Help Coloradans earn a living while protecting health and safety. Coloradans need to work, but it needs to be in safe environments for employees and the customers they might serve.
- Minimize secondary health effects (physical/mental health effects.) Staying home is difficult for mental health; people need to socialize. Also, people need to know that it is safe to seek out care for health concerns not related to COVID-19.
- Protect vulnerable populations. Those in nursing homes and/or long-term facilities are very vulnerable; the state has put many safety measures/precautions in place to protects those citizens.
The Governor stated that we can move to 'Safer-at-Home' now because the rate in cases across the state has dropped to a level that our hospitals can handle.
"I'm confident Coloradans will be vigilant in May as they were in April"
