Over 500K Fentanyl Pills Seized in Colorado in One Week

In 2023, Colorado set a record for the most fentanyl pills seized in a single year and 2024 is on track to break the record. According to the Drug Enforcement Administration, more than half a million fentanyl pills were seized in the state over one week.

The seizure of fentanyl pills in such a short timespan represents 22 percent of all fentanyl pills seized in Colorado last year. Three separate drug busts on June 7, June 13, and June 14 totaled a seizure of 507,000 pills. One of the busts resulted in 300,000 fentanyl pills being seized.

“As seen by the totals, Colorado is on pace to easily break last year’s fake fentanyl pill seizure record of 2.61 million. Keep in mind, DEA lab testing shows seven of every ten pills contain a potentially fatal dose of fentanyl. Seizing another 570,000 pills in Colorado means many lives have likely been saved,”

Drug Enforcement Administration lab testing shows that seven out of ten pills contain a potentially fatal dose of fentanyl. Investigations into the seized fentanyl pill shipments are currently still ongoing.

According to the Drug Enforcement Administration, more than 108,000 Americans died of a drug overdose or drug poisoning in 2023. Seventy percent of those deaths last year involved fentanyl. The seizure of more than half a million fentanyl pills in Colorado means that many lives have likely been saved due to the drug busts.
