Opening of New Johnstown Scheel’s Store Will Affect Traffic This Weekend
The Colorado Department of Transportation is advising anyone driving to, through and near the intersection of US 34 and Interstate 25 this weekend to expect very heavy traffic.
The opening of the new Scheel’s store just east of the intersection is expected to draw between 30,000 and 40,000 customers, on Saturday alone for the Grand Opening.
CDOT has been working with the Johnstown Police Department to prepare for the increased traffic. The new traffic signal at US 34 and Larimer Parkway is working now so both Larimer and Thompson Parkway will be available for traffic leading into the parking areas.
On Saturday, there will be some event-specific change in traffic patterns around US 34 and Thompson. Traffic coming off I-25 to go to the event will be directed to the dedicated right turn lane to Thompson. Through-traffic will be directed past Thompson and then the turn at Larimer will be available. Those coming south from Centerra will be narrowed to one lane to the south to accommodate that traffic coming from US 34.
