New Oil Site Proposed Near Windsor and Timnath Neighborhoods

Environmental activists are not happy about this new proposal.

According to The Coloradoan, the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC) has proposed for a 15-well oil and gas extraction pad to be built near Windsor and Timnath neighborhoods.

Called The Unicorn Pad, the new site would feature 15 well heads, eight oil tanks, two water tanks, and 18 separators for removing oil from mud. Its oil would be sent to other facilities through pipelines.

If the proposal passed, the site would take up about 15 acres near Colorado Highway 392 and Larimer County Road 1.

The location is currently irrigated farmland, and it is within 1,000 feet of houses and buildings.

A spokeswoman from the COGCC said they chose that particular location because it would allow access to minerals while also maximizing distances from occupied buildings and homes.

Larimer County, which does not have oil and gas facility regulations, will ask the state to look into the new site.

The state will evaluate the company's plans for avoiding noise and operation vibrations, as well as for preventing the contamination of the Greeley No. 2 Canal, a nearby irrigation ditch.

The state will also look into whether or not the new site will impact the surrounding air quality.

The company is only required to notify property owners that are within 1,000 feet of the proposed site about the new project.

The public has not reacted well to the proposal, with many calling for it for it to be stopped due to its possible effects on climate change.

Larimer County currently has 272 oil and gas wells.
