Melted Snow Uncovers Interesting Items at Colorado Ski Resort
During the wintertime, the slopes at Colorado's ski resorts accumulate hundreds of feet of snow, burying grass, rocks, and whatever else lies below.
As spring rolls around, things start to thaw and all of the snow eventually melts away, revealing miles of hidden terrain...and so much more.
Recently, more than 150 employees from Breckenridge Ski Resort met up for the annual mountain clean-up event. Every year, the crew tackles the hefty task of collecting items left behind on the slopes by visitors during ski season.
In addition to picking up an estimated 780 pounds of trash from the resort's ski runs this spring, many other interesting items were uncovered along the way. Resort staff highlighted some of their favorite finds, which included a metal spatula, a $2 Canadian coin, vapes on vapes, and one tiny ski boot.
One of the most unique discoveries was a message in a bottle. On Instagram, a Breck employee commented that the message inside said “Drink your Ovaltine" although that may just be a joke.
Another unusual item found during the clean-up was an iPod Nano - remember those? Seems vintage nowadays!
According to employees, they also collected tons of glasses, broken phones, plenty of poles and ski passes, AirPods, rental skis, IDs, plastic beads, and random plastic tubes.
Seeing the amount of items left behind is a great reminder to always pick up after yourself when recreating outdoors in Colorado. This was just at one mountain - imagine how many pounds of trash amass with all of Colorado's resorts combined.
