Colorado Ski Resorts with the Most Lifts
Colorado is home to 41 ski resorts, with a combined total of more than 45,000 acres of skiable terrain, and a whopping 349 chairlifts to access all of that land —but which resort has the most lifts of them all?
Surprisingly, being the biggest resort doesn't necessarily mean having the most ski lifts. With 5,317 acres of accessible area, Vail is certainly considered the largest ski resort in the Centennial State. However, it actually falls into second place for the amount of chair lifts it has on-site, with a total of 34.
Breckenridge Resort currently holds the top spot for the most ski lifts in Colorado, edging out Vail with an impressive 35 lifts. Breck is also where the highest ski lift in Colorado, and also North America is located. The Imperial Express Superchair reaches an elevation of 12,840 feet, providing access to advanced and expert terrain on Peak 8 and surrounding bowls.
Third on the list for having the most chair lifts is a tie between Beaver Creek and Winter Park Resort, both boasting 25 lifts to access their stunning slopes.
Cuchara Mountain Park and Silverton Mountain both have just one, single ski lift, but these areas are very small in comparison to Colorado's more popular places for winter recreation.
Even in the summertime some of these lifts still serve a purpose, transporting bikers and hikers to the top of mountains for their various outdoor adventures.
Colorado's ski resorts are frequently undergoing upgrades, making improvements, and adding new features, so it's very possible that the number of lifts could change in years to come. Just since 2020, several of the resorts have already added new chair lifts, making the statistics and totals rise. For example, five years ago, Vail only had 31 lifts, but now the deluxe resort has gained three more.
