The Department of Defense has verified that Master Sgt. Peter A. McKenna Jr. of the United States Army was Killed In Action last week in Afghanistan.

It's been 4 months since I last had to report someone of the Armed Forces who was Killed In Action. This is the longest stretch in almost a decade that we haven't lost any troops.

It was this past Saturday, 8 August 2015, that Master Sgt. Peter A. McKenna Jr. was Killed In Action while supporting Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.

Master Sgt. Peter A. McKenna Jr.  was 35-years-old and hailed from Bristol, Rhode Island. He was Killed In Action in Kabul, Afghanistan after being attacked by enemy small arms fire. In addition, eight Afghan contractors were killed.

Master Sgt. Peter A. McKenna Jr.  was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 7th Special Forces Group, Eglin Air Force Base, Florida.‎

The 17-year Army veteran, had also served in Iraq and awarded the Bronze Star with V device for heroism in combat operations, as well as the Meritorious Service Medal and the Army Commendation Medal. McKenna was serving at the operations rank of 1st Sergeant during his deployment in Afghanistan.

The last person Killed In Action was Spc. John M. Dawson who was killed on 8 April 2015.
