Man Gets 9 Years for Pulling BB Gun on Evans Police
A man convicted last month for pulling a gun on three Evans police officers in September 2016 has been sentenced in Weld County District Court. David Blanco will serve a 9-year prison sentence after jurors convicted him in October of three counts of felony menacing and four counts of child
abuse.
According to the Officer Involved Shooting Report an Evans police officer checked the
Rodeway Inn Motel’s registry on September 10, 2016 to see if any of the guests had outstanding arrest warrants. The officer learned that Blanco rented a room at the motel and
found he had a 2013 outstanding felony warrant from Kansas for burglary and possession of meth.
When officers approached Blanco in his motel room, he raised a gun and pointed it at them. One of the officers fired his weapon but did not hit him. Blanco then barricaded himself in the bathroom until he surrendered after the SWAT team deployed tear gas. Investigators later discovered the weapon was a BB gun replicated to look like a real handgun.
Blanco will be extradited to Kansas following the completion of his sentence in Colorado.
