A Longmont man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for the burglary of an elderly Weld County woman. Nicholas Fredrick was found guilty of burglary and felony theft of a 77-year-old woman from Mead after she left her home on the morning of March 3rd, 2015.

According to the Weld County District Attorney's Office, Frederick and two co-defendants were accused of breaking through the victim’s door, and stealing over $53,000 worth of property, including her deceased husband’s engraved ipod and wedding rings. Three suspects were arrested by the Weld County Sheriff's Office when one of them attempted to pawn the items at a local pawn shop.

The defendant had five previous felony convictions. It was argued that Fredrick has demonstrated a clear pattern of criminal activity and behavior and accepts no responsibility for his actions. Judge Thomas Quammen handed down the twenty-year sentence for the burglary and six years to be served concurrently for theft, including 241 days of time already served.

Jesus Rodela pleaded guilty to attempted burglary of a residence. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison. The other defendant in the case is a juvenile.
