Kava Bars Are Expanding Across Colorado – What Are They?
With all the different bars and restaurants in Colorado that you'll find, a particular sort of bar is taking off: Kava bars. While this chain began locally in 2020, they've made a name for themselves with locations in Northern Colorado, New Mexico and even in the Virgin Islands.
Kava Bars and Colorado Seem to Go Hand-in-Hand
It makes a lot of sense that Colorado, a health-conscious state, would see a bar that caters to those looking for healthy non-alcoholic drinks find success. Kava bars provide a place to go, to hangout, enjoy community, and enjoy the effects of having a cup or two of Kava or a glass of specialty tea. You do, generally, have to be over 18 to enter these bars, as they are more of an "adult' space. Those 18+ can enjoy a cup of kava, those 21+ can have and "infused/ethnobotanical" tea.
What is Kava Found at These Kava Bars in Colorado?
Kava, when it comes to the beverage, a drink derived from the root of the kava plant; the drink can have effects of relaxation, pain relief, and euphoria (though not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration.) Since 2021, people around Denver and Northern Colorado have seen more than a few Roots & Leaves Kavas & Teas locations opening.

As of early 2026, they had locations in Denver (2,) Longmont, Fort Collins (2,) Greeley, New Mexico, and in St. Thomas. Given the "laid back" vibe of kava bars, having locations mostly near colleges and in the Virgin Islands tracks. Loveland is set to have it's own location (along with a retail store and greenhouse) sometime in 2026.
Loveland's Roots & Leaves will be located at 530 North Garfield in a spot that was long-home to Gateway Garden Center.
You don't get drunk at a kava bar, but you do get elevated. You don't lose control of your functions or ability to drive; you just hang out and have a good, sober time.
