The Downside of Hiking in NOCO
Hiking isn't really my jam. I know I live mere minutes from some of the most beautiful mountain hiking in Colorado, but there are just too many downsides (but I'm a pessimist, so just stick with me on this). But with the unseasonably warm temperatures, people are getting the itch to get out and hike. Not so fast. Let's take a look at the current cons of hiking in 2026.
Crowds with very little parking
There's nothing worse than getting into the hiking mindset, driving to the trail, only to find the parking is full. Sure, I could probably park further down the mountain and walk to the trail, but that's double the walking, and I'm a weak, weak human.
Dog Poop Bags
According to trail rangers, people just aren't picking up their dog poop. Or they're bagging the poop but just leaving the bags on the trail. I guess people don't want to carry poop bags while trying to become one with nature. But the problem is only getting worse. So be careful, because if you step in dog poop while hiking, it could really put a damper on your day.
Rattle Snakes
The creepy crawlies are out in full force due to the unseasonably warm weather for this time of year. The best advice on avoiding the rattlesnake population is to stay on the trail! Those who venture off into the uncharted wilderness face a very high chance of running across a rattlesnake.
So if you decide to head for the mountains please follow these three simple rules to not only keep you safe, but keep the trails clean for everyone!
