Hewlett Fire 94% Contained – Full Containment Expected Tonight
The Hewlett Fire northwest of Fort Collins in the Poudre Canyon was 94 percent contained as of last night. Authorities expect to have the fire fully contained by tonight (Tuesday, 5/22). The U.S. Attorney’s Office says a camper started the fire with an outdoor stove in the Roosevelt National Forest and was unable to stamp it out.
The costs of fighting the fire have reached about $3.2 million.
Thanks to Arapaho & Roosevelt National Forests / Pawnee National Grassland for the latest updates.
Everyone is reminded that there is still fire, firefighters and firefighting equipment in the area. Drive slowly; watch out. Warming weather today is likely to make hot spots of the fire put up smoke.
