Officer-Involved Shooting Under Investigation in Greeley, Colorado

Officials from the 19th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team are currently investigating an officer involved shooting that took place in the town of Greeley.

Greeley Police were called to look into suspicious activity around the 500 Block of 16th Avenue after multiple reports came in, the Weld County Sheriff's department confirms.

These local reports claimed that a man had been walking around that area brandishing a knife. The incident report alleges that the man was "swinging a knife aggressively at passing cars."

Suspect Located Near 1900 Block of 2nd Street

Officers were able to find him at the 1900 block of 2nd Street.

Man Reportedly Ignored Commands Before Officer Opened Fire

County officials say that the man did not comply with the officer's demand for him to drop his weapon. At this point, the law enforcement official that was dealing with him opened fire, according to reports.

Life-Saving Efforts Unsuccessful; Suspect Pronounced Dead at 2:25 PM

Once more officers arrived on the scene, they reportedly performed CPR/life saving measures until medical professionals could take over, but to no avail. According to the official report from the 19th Judicial CIRT team, he was pronounced dead at 2:25 PM on Wednesday, May 14th.

Weld County Coroner Identifies Man as Sean Michael Ybarra

The man who was shot by the officer has been identified by the Weld County Coroner as Sean Michael Ybarra, age 35, of Greeley.

Ybarra had been on parole at the time of the incident.

No Injuries Reported Among Officers or Public

No officers or members of the public were harmed, according to reports.

There is no word on the name of the officer that was involved in the shooting.
