An armed robbery suspect is dead in Greeley this morning after a long police chase.

According to Denver7:

The crime spree started around 10 p.m. last night at Chipper's Classic Lanes bowling alley in Greeley.

A woman told officers a man held her and her friends an gunpoint, demanding she get $200 from an ATM or he would shoot and kill her friends. The woman said she got the money and the gunman took her money and purse.

When officers arrived at the bowling alley, they saw the suspect speeding off. Police said the suspect pointed a gun at officers, but no shots were fired at that time. The suspect made a getaway, but then about 30 minutes later, officers spotted the vehicle at 6th Avenue at 14th Street.

Officers said they approached the car, ordered the suspect out, but he refused. They said the suspect reversed, tried to hit the officer, did hit a garage and other vehicles and drove off. There was a chase through town that ended at Highway 83 and 31st Street.

The suspect got out of his car, tried to carjack another driver and that's when officers opened fire, killing the suspect. No officers were injured.

Highway 85 was closed in both directions at 31st Street.

God bless our police officers, who put their lives on the line every single day.
