By now you should have all of your hearty veggies in the ground, protecting them from bunnies and hail. But what's planting in your garden in June?

I've heard many people wonder if it's too late to plant and in some cases that is true, but there are things that you can plant that will flourish and bring you fresh veggies, even now.

It may be  too late for the hearty veggies, like potatoes, pumpkins, cauliflower and broccoli, typically anyway, but you can get away with planting some great choices that will feed your gardening soul and your body. Go for transplanting some of your favorites, if available at your local stores, buy plants that are already on their way.

WHAT'S PLANTING IN YOUR GARDEN THIS JUNE:

  • Lettuce, all kinds
  • Swiss Chard
  • Radish, this is a crop that can be planted and replanted all season
  • Leeks
  • Kale
  • Cucumbers, you may not see a huge crop or will be swimming in cucumbers in late summer, early fall
  • Zucchini, same can be said of this favorite garden plant as the cucumber
  • Tomato, yes, if you can find a good established plant, you could have tomatoes

If you're speedy and haven't any daytime plans this weekend, feel free to plant some warm weather plants you thought you couldn't, like beans, peppers and egg plant

Gardening is and isn't an exact science, you need to trust your gut, your soil and your commitment to watering and nurturing your garden and you will be amazed at what you can do, even this late in the game.
