When Can You Fish for Free in Colorado?
I have loved fishing for as long as I can remember. As a kid, I would go all the time to the pond near my house just to throw a line in the water and see how many rainbow trout I could catch every day I could on summer break.
As an adult, the fishing trips are far less frequent and it has been years since I have purchased a fishing license. I miss the days of sitting next to the lake or river and trying my luck with a pole and a hook. Sadly, I cannot justify the cost of a Colorado fishing license versus the amount of times I would actually get to go fishing in the summer.
One of the things you would never want to do is to try your luck fishing without a license in Colorado or anywhere in the United States for that matter. Fines can be hefty and far outweigh the cost of an annual Colorado fishing license. However, if you want to get some fishing this summer, there is a way to do so for free.
Colorado Offers Free Fishing Days For Everyone
The state of Colorado does offer free days where you can go fishing without a license. Grab your tacklebox and your poles and head out to the nearest body of water to try and reel in the big one and not worry about paying for an annual fishing license.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife is offering a free fishing weekend for Colorado and out-of-state residents on June 1 and 2, 2024. Colorado Parks and Wildlife says this free fishing weekend in Colorado is a great way to get outside with family and friends and take advantage of the state's extensive opportunities to fish for many warm and cold water species.
