Riding Transfort? You Don’t Need to Wear Your Mask Anymore
If you're a regular Transfort rider, you now have one less thing to bring on the bus: your mask.
In a Tuesday (April 19) press release, the City of Fort Collins, which owns the transit agency, announced that it is no longer requiring masks at Transfort's bus stops and centers or on the Transfort, MAX, and FLEX routes.

The change is the result of a Monday (April 18) court order that repealed a January 2021 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) order "requiring masks on public transportation conveyances and at transportation hubs."
Despite this, the release stated that "passengers who wish to continue wearing a mask on buses and at transit facilities are welcome to do so," noting that bus drivers can still require masks on their individual vehicles.

While the City is ditching the Transfort mask mandate, it will uphold a March 2020 emergency order keeping the agency's services "fare-free."
The CDC change is affecting more than just Transfort. Following the ruling, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) decided to lift the mask mandate at Denver International Airport (DEN).

However, like Transfort, individual airlines are still able to require passengers to mask up on airplanes.
Larimer County ended its indoor mask mandate in January of this year. When the county reimplemented the requirement in October of 2021, Northern Coloradans had mixed feelings about it — see how they reacted in the gallery below.
