A few days ago, I was out during the week running errands when I saw a camp school bus filled with happy kids. This got me thinking about the magic of field trips, whether it's school or camp, it doesn't really matter.

Every adult has a field trip memory forever. For me, it's when the girl I was sitting by on the bus barfed. I think we were going to the museum.

Here are some of (in my opinion) the coolest Northern Colorado field trip locations that I remember from my youth.

The Avery House

Located in the heart of Downtown Fort Collins, the Avery house was built in 1879, and the owners, Franklin and Sara Avery, were both very vocal in the creation of Old Town Fort Collins. With its furniture, design, and overall vibe, a tour of the Avery House means stepping into the 1800's.

Currently, the Avery House is managed by Poudre Landmarks, and weekend tours are available upon request.

Bartles Farm

This family-owned and operated farm is more of a fall field trip, giving kiddos the opportunity to pick a pumpkin, enjoy a hayride, or check out the petting zoo.

Bartels Farm has been operating up north near Wellington for over a century, which means if you grew up in Northern Colorado, you've probably taken a field trip to the farm.

Fort Collins Museum of Discovery

The museum in Fort Collins is a full 21,000 square feet of exhibit space, including the Otter Box Digital Dome Theater, historical artifacts from Northern Colorado, and plenty of space to explore everything from music and animal life to community history.

Built in 2012, the Museum of Discovery wasn't around when I was young, but it's very cool to see my kids visit it on their field trips through the years.

Details about the museum can be found at fcmod.org.

These are just a handful of amazing field trip locations in or around Fort Collins that I loved visiting as a kid. Because a bad day on a field trip is always better than a great day at school.
