Way Too Many People Need Food in Colorado
Eating is something that many of us take for granted. For most in the country and in Colorado, when you are hungry, you go to the fridge, go to the pantry, or perhaps go to a drive-thru, sit down restaurant, or order food on your phone to be delivered. It is a luxury that many don't think about each day. Food is something we all need to live, but as the cost of living has gone up everywhere, the cost to eat has as well. Groceries are expensive, eating out is expensive, and even dieting is costly. Far too many in Colorado are going hungry, and you may not even be aware of it, but you can help.
People Going Hungry in Colorado

While many of us in Colorado enjoy snacks, three meals a day, and dessert at night, there are those around us who continue to struggle to afford food, and some days and nights go without food. A recent study released by feedingamerica.org revealed how many people are going hungry in Northern Colorado, and the numbers are shocking. According to the study, there are around 43,000 people in Larimer County who would be considered food insecure, and another 40,000 in Weld County. The average cost of a meal in Weld County is $3.84, and in Larimer County, $4.04. With so many people being food insecure, how can you help them?
Help Those That Are Hungry in Northern Colorado

More than half the population in Larimer County falls below the SNAP threshold, with 57% being below, and 61% being below in Weld County. For those unaware, SNAP is the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly known as food stamps. This means that many in the area are struggling to afford food each day and night, and you can help. There are food banks in both counties that you can donate to. The one in Larimer County is at 5706 Wright Drive in Loveland, and the one in Weld County is at 1108 H Street in Greeley.
