Even Colorado Grasshoppers are Ready for Denver Broncos Football
It seems like Denver Broncos fans are on the edge of their seats waiting for football season, especially since it seems like we're going to actually get a season in spite of the pandemic. Excitement for the upcoming season was recently reignited when the NFL 'OK'ed plans for full stadiums.
But even though we're all excited for sports to come back, you might find some surprising fans out there. We've seen old fans, young fans, even dog fans— but have you ever seen a grasshopper that was rooting for the Broncos?
Luckily for you, we have. Behold! The barber pole grasshopper (Dactylotum bicolor).
According to CSU Extension, this colorful grasshopper is found in Colorado with markings of reddish orange, black and yellow, but we think those colors look true to our team colors via photos.
These grasshoppers live in areas of the eastern plains and are prevalent in late summer. Worried that we're going to have to add a grasshopper influx to our list of worries this year? Don't be; it turns out that these insects feed on broadleaf plants, but typically only those of low value, barring these long-legged creatures from being considered pests to our agricultural community.
So, here's to another hopeful season for the Broncos from all us fans.... including the barber pole grasshopper.
