Did you know that people use their seat belt less at night, which means more unbuckled fatalities? That's why the Colorado Department of Transportation is starting their Click It Or Ticket Nighttime Enforcement period on Thursday, July 21. It ends on Sunday, July 27.

In 2013, Colorado’s nighttime seat belt enforcement resulted in 2,370 citations statewide, and it's not cheap if they catch you without your seat belt. The minimum ticket fine is $65.

In Colorado, not wearing a seat belt is a secondary violations. That means that drivers can be ticketed for violating the seat belt law only if they are stopped for another traffic violation.

WHY WEAR YOUR SEAT BELT?

1. It's the law!

2. Getting a ticket is expensive!

3. In 2012, seat belts saved an estimated 12,174 lives nationwide. An additional 3,031 lives could have been saved if all unrestrained passenger-vehicle occupants involved in fatal crashes had been properly restrained.
