Has the state of Colorado mellowed out, or is it still the wild, wild west?
In recent years, Colorado has been notorious for being the worst state for auto thefts, catalytic converter thefts, and crime. In 2024, Colorado saw a drastic decrease in thefts of catalytic converters by over 95 percent.

While thefts of these vehicle parts seem like Colorado is moving in a good direction, there is still some bad news for residents in the state. A new report has been released by U.S. and World Report News, and Colorado ranked high on the list, and not in a good way.
How Dangerous is Colorado in 2025?
The report of the most dangerous states in America places Colorado nearly at the top of the list. Ranking second, Colorado has been riddled with violent crime and property crime rates.

States That Ranked Safer Than Colorado
South Carolina, Nevada, California, Washington, Alaska, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Louisiana, all ranked safer on the most dangerous states list by U.S and World News Report. The most dangerous state in the nation is our neighbor to the south, New Mexico.
New Mexico's violent crime rate was 749 per 100,000 residents, and its property crime rate was 2,887 per 100,000 residents. However, there is some good news for Colorado from the U.S. and World Report News. Colorado did tank as the eleventh-best state overall in the nation.
