Broadway Shows Are Bringing Big Talent to Northern Colorado

There is nothing quite like live theater.

The energy! The talent! And most importantly, the music!

For the past few days, I've been combing through the listings for touring Broadway shows that are coming to Denver and Fort Collins this year. I'm just on a bit of a musical theater kick at the moment.

In mid-April a production of the Alan Menken musical 'Little Shop of Horrors' opened at the Wolf Theater in Denver.

Why This Denver Musical Is a Must-See for Colorado Theater Fans

This unique sci-fi musical features a quirky character named Seymour who works at a flower shop in Skid Row, and a deadly plant that turns his world upside down.

It's actually based off of a 1986 movie starring Steve Martin and Bill Murray.

CO Audiences Are Loving This Sinister Character in ‘Little Shop’

One of my favorite characters in the entire show is a sadistic dentist named Orin Scrivello. While he's an awful character, his song is a fun listen!

When I was looking into the casting for this Denver production, I was surprised to find a name that looked pretty familiar; Will Branner.

From NYC to Colorado: Will Branner’s Journey to the Denver Stage

Branner most recently wrapped up a run as Biff in Back To The Future (Broadway), according to his official bio on the Denver Center website. The North Carolina native has had a very active theater career ever since graduating from the University of Michigan a few years back.

Starkid’s Will Branner Channels Viral Villain Vibes in Colorado Performance

You might recognize this face and voice from the internet.

In 2023, Starkid Productions (a musical theater group with a massive online footprint) created and staged an original musical called 'Nerdy Prudes Must Die.'

The full show was posted to their YouTube channel months later and has garnered millions of views.

Described as a "teen, slasher-comedy," this work stars Branner as a jock turned ghostly specter Max Jägerman who returns from the dead to exact revenge on his classmates.

If I can be honest, I think Branner stole the show. He somehow toed the line between being funny and absolutely terrifying.

To top it all off, he's got a nice set of pipes.

If you were on YouTube anytime between 2009 and 2015 you might remember the parody musical that this group created that blew up online 'A Very Potter Musical.'

WARNING: 'NERDY PRUDES MUST DIE' CONTAINS ADULT CONTENT LIKE TEEN-DEATH, SCARY IMAGERY, BLOOD & GORE, AND SEXUAL SITUATIONS.

How Long Will 'Little Shop of Horrors' Run at Denver Center for the Performing Arts?

Now, he's performing in Colorado for the next few weeks. 'Little Shop of Horrors' will be running at the Denver Center Performing Arts through May 25th.

You can purchase tickets for any of the remaining shows here on the venue's official website.
